The Nebraska Hospital
Association has teamed up with Nebraska Organ Recovery System (NORS)
to help give the gift of life.
[Right now,
110,213 people are waiting for an
organ transplant in the U.S.;
hundreds
of people are waiting for an organ
transplant in Nebraska]
Facts about
organ donation:
-
The national
transplant waiting list is currently over 110,000 people.
-
Each day 20 people
will pass away because they didn’t get the life-saving organ transplant they
needed to survive.
-
Every 11 minutes a
new name is added to the transplant waiting list.
-
One organ donor
holds the potential to save 8 lives and enhance up to 50 more through tissue
donation.
-
Organ donation does
not delay funeral arrangements or disfigure a body, an open casket funeral
is still a possibility.
-
There is never a
cost to be an organ and tissue donor.
-
All major U.S.
religions are in support of organ and tissue donation, and consider it a
final act of charity.
Nebraska is behind most all of our neighboring
states when it comes to registered donors. We sit below 50% of all residents
while
most of
our surrounding states are 60% or higher. The goal is to add 80,000 new names
to the registry.
I would like to add my name to the Donor Registry of Nebraska.
