DHHS launches diabetes awareness campaign LINCOLN—November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and Nebraska DHHS
has launched a campaign called Defend Against Diabetes to educate people on their risk of developing diabetes. The new
Web site has a link to a risk assessment test and
information on how to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
LINCOLN—The
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today awarded nearly $220
million in Affordable Insurance Exchange grants to 13 states to help
create Exchanges, giving these states more flexibility and resources to
implement the Affordable Care Act.
The approximate award for Nebraska was $5.5 million. HHS also announced a
six-month extension for Level One grant applications, to June 29, 2012;
and released a set of Frequently Asked Questions for states.

last day eligible hospitals can register and attest to meaningful use of
electronic health records to receive an incentive payment for federal
fiscal year 2011 under the Medicare EHR incentive program. Hospitals do
not have to attest for FY 2011 to benefit fully from the incentives. For

communications within the health care industry.

Senate Dems plan to move $1 trillion omnibus in December WASHINGTON—Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) plans to move a $1 trillion spending
bill in December, a strategy that will spark a backlash from Tea Party
conservatives.
If conservatives torpedo the omnibus measure, Reid and other Democratic
leaders would likely be forced to accept another long stopgap spending
measure or risk a government shutdown when funding runs out at midnight
December 17.

ruling on health reform isn’t an abstract argument about the U.S. Constitution.
It’s a highly practical question about whether, when and how to proceed with one
of the health law’s most important and complicated pieces: setting up health
insurance exchanges. Already facing political strife over implementation of
health reform, some states are wondering if they should sit tight on exchange
decisions until the court rules, probably in June.
