West Point Hospital building an addition

WEST POINT—St. Francis Memorial Hospital is getting a makeover. The critical access hospital in West Point has 25 beds. That number won't change when construction concludes in 2012, but rooms which are part of a $21 million addition will be larger.

"It's probably the biggest thing that's happened for local health care since the current building opened in 1950," said Todd Consbruck, executive director of physicians' services and communications. "It should help secure the future of health care here in West Point."

The 52,000-square-foot addition, under construction on the hospital's south side, will include three stories above ground and one below as a basement is being put under it, said Ron Briggs, hospital administrator and chief executive officer. Read more.

Boone County Health Center shows off new patient wing

NORFOLK—A bright future lies ahead for Boone County Health Center. That was the assessment of State Senator Kate Sullivan and other speakers at an open house for the Health Center’s new patient care addition Sunday, June 27. “This is a wonderful facility with state of the art technology for the people of Boone County and the entire area,” said Senator Sullivan.

The hospital unveiled the 12 new patient rooms in its new addition to more than 250 people who attended the open house. Vic Lee, hospital administrator and C.E.O., pointed out that the new wing represents the major portion of the current construction phase, but there is more to be done.

Heineman, other lawmakers say Nebraska doesn't need special session

LINCOLN—Some Nebraska officials and lawmakers have given their two cents on a multimillion-dollar question: Is a special session needed to address budget problems? No, they said.

On Friday, they got an overview of state finances from the Legislature's chief fiscal analyst.

Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood of Norfolk asked whether the state had the cash flow necessary to pay its bills and was told by analyst Mike Calvert that it did. But Flood also was told that could change if month-to-month revenue dipped below projections. Read more.
