recently released.
The state unemployment rate was 5 percent in March and April.
The rate is two-tenths of a percentage point higher than in May 2009.

BETHESDA, Md.—A premier brain injury and traumatic stress treatment center
opened Thursday amid news that the head of the military’s oft-criticized mental
health efforts had abruptly stepped down. Brigadier General Loree Sutton resigned earlier this week as the director of the Defense Center of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury. Sutton had often taken heat over charges that the military wasn’t doing enough to diagnosis and treat traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.

BEATRICE—Beatrice Community Hospital finalized financing for a new $45 million facility today, completing a transaction that capitalizes on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA) changes and will bring improved health care delivery to the small
Nebraska town. Local Nebraska banks and individuals have purchased nearly 40
percent of the tax-exempt bonds issued, and the community’s affinity for the
project helped to keep the interest rate on the bonds low. The rate on the debt
is fixed for 25 years, and $30 million of the bonds are rated investment-grade
by Fitch Ratings. Read more.

WASHINGTON—The House last night approved legislation to delay for six months a 21
percent Medicare pay cut for physicians by providing a 2.2 percent increase in the Medicare physician fee schedule through November. Approved by a 417 to 1 vote,
H.R. 3962 will reduce hospital payments by about $4 billion by prohibiting hospitals from retrospectively billing to unbundle payments for outpatient therapeutic services provided prior to date of enactment of the legislation if they were performed within 72 hours of a hospital admission and were unrelated to that admission. The bill does not extend a temporary increase in Medicaid's Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, nor does it extend COBRA subsidies to laid-off workers, as proposed in earlier versions of "jobs" legislation. President Obama this morning signed the bill, which cleared the Senate last week, into law.
