Fosdick named Grassroots Champion

LINCOLN—The American Hospital Association (AHA), in partnership with the Nebraska Hospital Association, recently named Glenn Fosdick, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, as the 2010 AHA Grassroots Champion for Nebraska. Fosdick will be recognized for his exceptional leadership in generating grassroots and community activity in support of a hospital’s mission.

The AHA Grassroots Champion Award was created to recognize those hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s vital role in the community, who have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and who are tireless advocates for hospitals and their patients.

“We depend upon strong local voices to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve,” said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO. “This award is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these individuals to improving health and health care in America.”

Hein named interim CEO at Howard County Medical Center

St. PAUL—Timothy Wick resigned as CEO of Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul, and Joyce Hein has been named interim CEO. Wick, who began in St. Paul in January 2009, submitted his resignation in early March to the board. He said in an interview last week that his leadership style didn't fit well with the hospital's culture.

Board chairperson Carol Schroeder said Hein has strong experience in rural health care and will help guide the hospital board in searching for its next CEO. She said the board's priorities for a new leader would be similar to those during the last search—someone who has a passion for St. Paul and rural health care, and experience with staff development.
