Electronic Health Record Implementation

To implement health information technologies (HIT) other than electronic prescribing, physician order entry, personal health records, community health records, health information exchanges, smart cards, using telehealth to advance previous investments (e.g., using e-prescribing to build a telepharmacy), and creating interoperability with outside partners such as health departments and other HRSA grantees. At the end of the project period, grantees must demonstrate that they have implemented the HIT innovation in the sites they initially proposed. Grantee must also demonstrate how this innovation has or will lead to improvements in health outcomes. All grantees must demonstrate steps taken to achieve sustainability of initiative after federal funds ends.
Service Area Competitions

The Health Center Program, as authorized by section 330 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, promotes the development and operation of community-based primary health care service systems in medically underserved areas and improves the health status of medically underserved populations. The purpose of this activity is to continue to support comprehensive primary and preventive health care service delivery to areas where existing section 330 grantees have a project period ending in FY 2008. It is expected that each application submitted to serve one of these areas will represent a clear focus on maintaining access to care and reducing health disparities identified in the existing community and target population.
Rural Health Research Grant Program Cooperative Agreement

Funding Amount: $600,000

The Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP), Health Resources and Services Administration, is providing funding to organizations to support the Rural Health Research Centers (RHRCs) Cooperative Agreement Program. Recipients of cooperative agreements will establish RHRCs which conduct and disseminate policy-relevant health services research on issues of national significance with a specific topic of concentration (e.g., Medicare, health workforce, uninsured). The awards will be for a 4-year project period.
Health Information Technology (HIT) Planning Grant

Award Amount: $125,000
Application Deadline: April 15, 2008
To support health centers in structured planning activities that will prepare them to adopt Electronic Health Records (EHR) or other HIT innovations. Planning activities for EHR adoption may include readiness assessment, workflow analysis, due diligence in selecting vendor, business planning, determine specific network HIT functions. Planning activities for other HIT initiatives may include marketplace assessment, initial stages of collaboration with partners, and business planning. Applicants will need to describe the outcome of the grant and must demonstrate progress after the first year that will lead to completing the goal after the second year. For example, if the applicant proposes to use the funds to plan for implementation of an EHR, then at the end of 2 years, grantees will have a solid plan to adopt HER along with indicators of success.
Building Healthy Teen Relationships
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Award Amount: Up to $250,000 per year with a maximum award of $1 million for the full grant period

Preventing intimate partner violence (IPV) begins with ensuring that young people’s first relationships are healthy ones. IPV is an important determinant of health and well-being and often begins in adolescence with conflict in relationships. The Building Healthy Teen Relationships program will support the creation and evaluation of comprehensive community-based models of prevention that aim to decrease relationship violence and increase positive, protective relationship skills.

Local Funding Partnerships (LFP)
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Award Amount: $200,000 – $500,000 (match required)

With a fresh name and additional dollars to award in matching grants, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Local Funding Partnerships marks its 20th anniversary of successful partnerships with local grantmakers. Over the next three years, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Local Funding Partnerships (LFP) will continue awarding matching grants of $200,000 to $500,000 to highly collaborative, innovative projects working to solve some of the most intractable health problems for vulnerable populations in the U.S. To be considered for an LFP matching grant, projects must be new, community-based and nominated by a local funder such as a community or family foundation, a corporate or independent foundation, or other philanthropy.
